Phil Mickelson’s 30th Masters Appearance Ends with Epic Final Round

Augusta, GA – Golf fans witnessed an incredible final round at the 2023 Masters Tournament, as Phil Mickelson, one of the most beloved players on the PGA Tour, put on a show for the ages in what may be his final appearance at Augusta National.

Mickelson, who at 52 years old is the oldest player in the field, entered Sunday’s round nine shots behind leader Brooks Koepka. But with his impressive display of shot-making, Mickelson managed to claw his way back into contention, shooting a final round 7-under-par 65 to finish at 12-under for the tournament, just one shot off the lead.

The gallery roared as Mickelson made birdies on the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th, and 9th holes, and an eagle on the 13th. Despite a bogey on the 16th, Mickelson gave himself a chance to tie for the lead on the 18th hole with a long birdie putt, which he narrowly missed.

After the round, Mickelson was clearly emotional, saying, “It’s been an amazing journey for me, and I’m just so grateful for the opportunity to come out here and play at this level at this age. I gave it my all today, and I can walk away from this tournament with my head held high.”

Mickelson’s performance was a testament to his enduring talent and his dedication to the game, as well as a reminder of his incredible legacy at Augusta National. Mickelson has won the Masters three times in his career, in 2004, 2006, and 2010, and has finished in the top 10 11 times.

But perhaps more than his on-course achievements, Mickelson has endeared himself to fans with his charismatic personality and his willingness to engage with them on and off the course. He is known for his crowd-pleasing antics, such as the time he raced a golf cart across the 16th fairway during a practice round, and for his philanthropic efforts, including his work with the Mickelson Foundation, which supports a variety of charitable causes.

As the sun set on Augusta National and the cheers of the fans faded away, Mickelson could be seen walking off the 18th green, waving to the crowd and soaking in the moment. It remains to be seen whether this will be his last appearance at the Masters, but if it is, he has certainly left his mark on the tournament and on the hearts of golf fans around the world.
